Finnish Higher Education System

There are two types of universities in Finland:
1. Universities focus on academic research and theoretical learning Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate.
2. Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) are practical and career oriented offering hands on learning industry projects and internships.

Admission Intakes

Autumn Intake (Main): Applications open in January every year and classes start in August. Most programs are available.
Spring Intake: Applications open from August to September classes start in February. Limited programs offered.

Application Routes

Joint Application: Apply to up to 6 programs simultaneously
Bachelor’s: 4 January to 18 January every year
Master’s: 1 December to 18 January every year
Separate Applications: Direct to universities, open from November to March. Ideal for making early decisions and applying to specific programs.

English Language Requirements

For Undergraduate (UG) Applicants
IELTS: Minimum 6.0 or 5.5.PTE: Minimum 56 (58 is accepted by most universities).SAT Test or Entrance Exam.
For Postgraduate (PG) Applicants:
IELTS: Minimum 6.5 or 6.0.PTE: Minimum 62.

Work Opportunities During Studies

Students can work up to 30 hours/week during semesters and full time during holidays. Average monthly income ranges from €900–€1,200.

Post Graduation Opportunities

Graduates can apply for a 2-year residence permit to seek work/start a business.
PR after 4 years, Citizenship after 5 years + YKI Finnish test.
